Bushfire Expertise
ECOdesign Architects have been at the forefront of the planning design construction and bushfire recovery for two decades. Writing national guidelines for architects and others, led to facilitating community recovery in Marysville and the region (Victoria) through 2009 following the ‘Black Saturday‘ bushfires. In 2013, Nigel was again active in dealing with the aftermath of the lower Blue Mountains bushfires. He has represented the Australian Institute of Architects since on the three ‘bushfire’ Australian Standards regulations (sprinklers, bunkers and construction) as well as an expert giving evidence for the 2020 Royal Commission.
Through 2020 Nigel has presented (live and webinars) to communities and professionals on ‘building back better’, writing articles for ‘Sanctuary’ and ‘Renew’ magazines, plus on-going work on bushfire safer homes and retro-fits. Hence the bushfire expertise draws theory, practice and built-environment leadership across all aspects of safer homes and buildings in bushfire prone areas.
